Technical Background
The converter uses a two-stage process: first, it reads the DOCX file using PhpWord, which parses the Open XML format to extract text, formatting, tables, and structure. Then it converts the content to HTML, applying CSS styles for proper formatting, and renders it to PDF using Dompdf with the DejaVu Sans font family for broad Unicode support including Cyrillic characters.
The tool handles TextRuns (paragraphs with mixed formatting), Text elements with font styles, Tables with cell content, ListItems, Titles/Headings, and TextBreaks. Images are currently marked as placeholders in the output PDF.
Use Cases
- Business Documents — Convert contracts, proposals, and reports to PDF for professional sharing.
- Resumes & CVs — Ensure your resume looks perfect on any device by converting to PDF.
- Academic Papers — Submit assignments and papers in the universally accepted PDF format.
- Archiving — Create permanent PDF copies of important Word documents for long-term storage.
- Email Attachments — PDF files are smaller and more universally readable than DOCX for email.
